This fabulous piece is unsigned, but can be attributed to Urie Mandle by the patent shown in a link provided below and by the style. A nearly identical pin is pictured and described in the book American Costume Jewelry by Carla and Roberto Brunialti on pages 239 and 240. Urie Mandle costume jewelry is rare and it is highly sought out. This chatelaine is substantial. The metal is gold colored. It looks like vermeil over sterling, however I have not tested the piece and it is not marked. The sheath is of black enamel with clear rhinestones and dazzling Siam red rhinestones. The dagger has a fleur-de-lis at the top of the handle and a huge red rhinestone further down the handle. This double pin can be worn with the dagger inside the sheath or outside the sheath. Holding this lovely example of 1940s costume jewelry one can easily understand why Urie Mandle's jewelry was sold at better department stores and why collectors are so fond of it!
Condition: Excellent vintage. Age related plating wear noted in spots on the daggers blade. There is a tiny ripple in one of the pin rods.
Measurements: 3 3/4" long and 1 1/4" wide. Measurement was taken with the dagger in the sheath.
