SOLD Coro called these novel pieces "Family Album Lockets". When open, there is a place for four pictures. These locket/pins were made in several styles, some larger than this piece and some were very elaborate. There was even an advertising slogan that read "Just picture the pleasure of wearing such a treasure". I have seen an ad for a similar piece as well as one in Julia C. Carroll's book, Collecting Costume Jewelry 101 from 2004. This brooch/locket is marked with the Pegasus and it says pat. pend. This prompted me to try and find the actual patent. I found that this piece was granted patent number 152102 in 1948. Adolph Katz was listed as the inventor. It is known that Katz signed many patents as a rep for Coro and not as the actual designer. The fleur di lis holds the pin and the locket has three original pictures. I am not sure if there were ever four. In Julia Carroll's book there appears to be two pictures and some sort of inscription. The hallmark appears on the inside of this lovely gold- tone piece.
Condition: Excellent vintage. Extremely little wear noted.
Measurements: 3/4" wide and 2 1/4" long.
