Oh my! Now you do not have to be a royal to dress like one thanks to KJL! Actually, this piece is based on a design by Van Cleef & Arpels that Aristotle Onassis gave to Jackie, a former First Lady with distinguished taste. In his own book Faking It he states that Jackie asked him to make a copy of her real jewels!! You will be unforgettable in this dazzling necklace and earring set. The long pendant necklace must have hundreds and hundreds of clear and so white rhinestones! The set weighs 10 ounces without packaging! The chain is a series of sections each set with a cabochon and clear rhinestones. It closes with a box clasp. The pendant is layered and has a regal look. The cabs are glass in red, green and blue. Warning! The necklace is not for the shy. It is a huge piece and will turn many heads or at least start a few conversations! The matching earrings are the clip- on type. They are a mirror image of the sections on the chain with the green cabochons. The hallmark appears on the reverse of the pendant and on the earring clips. A note about the marks: The pendant is marked with the older "Kenneth Lane" with copyright signature. The earrings are marked simply "KJL" with copyright I believe it is a natural set dating to the late 1960s. In the book Jewels of Fantasy a version of the necklace can be seen on page 328. The book dates the necklace to the 1970s. In the book Shamelessly - Jewelry from Kenneth Jay Lane by Nancy Schiffer, Mr. Lane discusses the necklace on page 37. He states that his inspiration was drawn from time spent in India and that one of these necklaces was worn by Linda Evans from the popular 1980s television show Dynasty! Condition: Excellent vintage. This parure looks as pristine as vintage jewelry can! Measurements: Necklace: 24" long [including pendant]. Pendant is: 2 1/4 wide and 2 1/2" long. Earrings: 1 1/8" in diameter.
