SOLD Did I say, colossal? This is the titanic of costume brooches. It bears the hallmark of Nicky Butler and Simon Wilson, the great team of jewelry designers from England. They began making jewelry in the 1970s and have since parted ways. Their pieces became instant hits and could be seen on Princess Diana. While doing research on this team I ran across and auction at Julien’s for some of Barbra Streisand items. She had a hand brooch by this team that sold for $1,260.00! It is my guess that jewelry with this mark will continue to increase in value. This massive brooch is not for the timid. It has three jaw dropping sections of clear rhinestones, headlight aurora borealis rhinestones, really funky smoky domed open backed rounds and smoky navettes. The sections are cleverly connected with a ring that is attached to smoky stones hiding the join. Hematite look tear shaped stones dangle from each portion. All of the stones, except for the dangles are prong set. The metal has a silvery gray in color that looks almost like gunmetal. The hallmark appears on the reverse of the bottom segment. This team made jewelry from the 1970s to the 1990s. I believe this is an earlier piece, however I am not certain. Condition: Very good used. One prong on one small smoky stone at the bottom area is not gripping the stone all the way. Also this stone looks a little dimmer than the others to me. I am not sure, but maybe it was repaired. I have priced the piece accordingly. Measurements: 7 1/4" long and 3 1/2" wide.
