Vintage Early 20th Century Chinese Champleve Enamel on Silver
Filigree Fan Brooch|Amazing Adornments.com Signed Vintage Costume
Jewelry|Brooches and Pin
SOLD It just goes to show how
no matter where we live, we have more in common than we think! This exquisite
piece was made in China well prior to WWII and far away from where one might
think of when thinking Art Nouveau. The
filigree fan is silver with a gold vermeil wash. The metal work as well as the
beautiful enameling on the butterflies and whiplashes on the front is enhanced
by small and large colorful glass rounds. At the bottom dangling from chain are
there light coral colored stones. The stones on this piece could be natural as
the Chinese at this time period where known to use natural gemstones; however,
they are too small for me to test.
The hallmark and silver mark appear on the reverse. For more examples of early
Chinese silver jewelry, see the 2005 book Collectable Silver Jewelry by
Fred Rezazadeh, beginning on page 179. A fan like this in another color can be seen in Enamel Jewelry by Nicholls and Allison on the cover and on page 152.
Condition:
Excellent vintage.
Light wear to the vermeil and some
darkening/patina noted. Unpolished.
Measurements:
2 3/4"
wide and 2 1/2" long.
